How to choose a dehumidifier for your home
Start with your room and how you’ll use it. A bigger number on the box is not a guarantee of a better fit.
Measure the space you want to dry
For one room, multiply length by width. A room measuring 4m by 4m is 16m². Compare that with the manufacturer’s coverage guidance, then check the temperature range. A single-room claim does not automatically cover a whole house with closed doors.
Our finder asks about room size before features. If you don’t know the size, it explains what to check instead of pretending the answer is certain.
Capacity and tank size are different
The litres in a model name describe an extraction rating, not the amount its tank holds. The Arete One 10L has a 2.5-litre tank. Published extraction varies with the test temperature and humidity. Use like-for-like conditions when comparing models.
Think about the daily routine
If you’ll carry it upstairs, compare weight. If it will sit beside you while you work, look at sound figures for the mode you expect to use. A quiet low setting does not tell you how loud laundry mode will be. A larger tank may mean fewer trips to empty it, but filling speed depends on your room.
App control can be convenient. It does not replace checking coverage, floor space and the machine’s operating limits. Keep delivery and any accessories inside your total budget.
Choose for the problem you actually have
For indoor laundry, compare the laundry controls and use the placement instructions in the manual. For a cold room, read our guide to the two types. For moisture that keeps returning, investigate its cause as well; a dehumidifier does not repair a leak or building defect.
A useful shortlist shows the compromises
Our comparison includes both reasons to consider a model and its trade-off. A smaller tank, more weight or no app may be perfectly acceptable to you. Choose which compromise fits your routine, rather than treating one machine as best for everyone.
